A stepping stone to a new career for Emma

E. Smith Volunteer stories

‘I given my time, but I’ve got a lot back…’

Emma has been volunteering with the 999 Club since June and, after training sessions with Learning & Activities Coordinator Zisca, facilitated creative writing workshops once a week in the Gateway.
After a period out of the workplace, volunteering helped her remember her old skills and regain her confidence, ‘I’ve learned how capable I am, and the act of getting out and doing something has brought other opportunities.’

She was heartened by the continual effort that other volunteers put into making the Gateway welcoming and safe. Working with vulnerable adults has led Emma to a new interest, and, thanks in part to her experience at the 999 Club, she’s left to begin a paid role training as a drug and alcohol practitioner.

We wish Emma the best of luck in her new role.
