The 999 Club is at the
heart of the local community.
Churches
We work with the local
churches – and appreciated their help when we were running the night
shelter. We hope they will become even more involved next year.
Rotary
Club
The local Rotary Clubs and
their individual members are very supportive of the 999 Club. They make
donations (where would the night shelter have been without their
sleeping bags?), donate money and one individual has even offered
accommodation for a children’s holiday.
Young
people
Local cubs, scouts and brownies also
collect for the 999 Club – they regularly collect toiletries which we
can then give out to people to whom a new bottle of shampoo or some hand
cream are real treats.
We are also working alongside students from the University of London,
Goldsmith’s College, which is just along the road from the New Cross
Centre. This has been great fun for us and the students. The Warden of
Goldsmiths was so impressed when he visited that he mentioned us and his
students’ involvement with us at last year’s graduation ceremonies.
The Law
We have recently been very
fortunate to acquire the services of a local solicitor who is a great
supporter of the 999 Club. He is providing a free advice session one
morning every month in the Deptford Centre.
The
Council
We work with the council –
particularly on drug rehabilitation projects and homelessness.
NHS
We work with local health
care providers – especially in the area of mental health. We keep in
regula and close contact with the local psychiatric clinic. Visiting
patients and taking them to appointments. We also help to encourage them
to remember their medication.
TB and
hepatitis screening and inoculation takes place at the Deptford centre.
